Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - 82%

This review comes 11 years too late :P. I had just received a 10 anniversary DVD of this movie from a friend of mine and must I say, this is quite a rocker. :)

This movie stars Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, and Guy Pearce as 3 transvestites who dresses up as women, dances and lip syncs to popular songs for a living. Man this movie is a blast. All three actors were phenomenal. Probably because they weren't as big as they are now in the hollywood sense, Hugo Weaving (Matrix) and Guy Pearce (LA Confidential) were willing to give it their most unreserved performance. Although Terence Stamp (Superman 2 - as General Zod!!) was quite a famous actor then, his performance was also amazing.

Story goes:
Mitzi's (Hugo) ex-wife needs a show. Mitzi gathers Bernadette (Terence) and Felicia (Guy) to help him out. They got a bus and travels to the outskirts of the city to do the show. Adventures on the road with 3 cross dressing dancers - a premise you can imagine to bring different scenarios to mind. It is perfectly setup to show people's reactions (and actions) upon these people. Intermingled there are also the subplots of Mitzi's worry about how his son will perceive him, as well as how Bernadette deals with life as an aged transvestite.

This movie is a joyride, and I encourage anyone who wishes to see something outrageous, yet populated with good performances from excellent actors to catch it. There is a soul in this one. Yes this review is 10 years too late ... but a good movie is timeless. :)
